The Nissan NV200 compact cargo van made its North American debut today at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show. The commercial version of New York City's NV200 Taxi joins Nissan's expanding lineup of professional vans that includes the full-size NV Cargo and Passenger variants.
Even though the NV200 Cargo is making its first appearance on U.S. soil, the compact van is already available in more than 40 countries around the world. However, the North American NV200's body has been extended 7.9 inches (200 mm) compared to the regular models sold elsewhere.
The NV200 measures 186.2 inches (4,729 mm) in length and rides on a 115.2-inch (2,926 mm) wheelbase offering a cargo capacity of 123 cubic feet with a maximum payload of 1,500 pounds (680kg).
A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that is matched to a Xtronic CVT transmission provides motivation. Nissan has not yet released output and fuel efficiency figures.
The NV200 will arrive at the Nissan's U.S. showrooms later this year offering buyers a choice of two trim levels called "S" and "SV".
“There is an increasing need for a ‘right-sized’ van that optimizes cargo space while offering the best possible fuel economy and an affordable price – the exact sweet spots of the innovative new Nissan NV200,” said Joe Castelli, vice president of Nissan Commercial Vehicles and Fleet.

um, your sat-nav photos are sorta goofy. First one looks like a sentra with the the nissan connect system badly photoshopped into the image. Second one is of a nissan connect system fitted to a Juke. Google NV200, you will get proper interior shots. From images of the NY taxi Nissan will keep the European/Asian dashboard but delete the outboard cupholders under the outer air vents (which were great for melting bottles when the heater was on)
They're not "our" pictures but official photos released by Nissan. But yes, I'll agree with you that the Navi has been photoshoped into the frame.
I get that it's a cargo van, but could it look more awkward?
What would you call the Ford Connect?
Cargo Vans are about funcionality, not looks. If they were all about looks I would buy an NV200 and put some 20 inch chrome wheels on it and park it infront of starbucks... beside a BMW. It should fit in nicely.
I agree that bigger wheels would help (18s might be enough). Just saying a little more form with the function would be nice. But you're right in the end -- this type of vehicle is all-function-all-the-time. I was initially more thinking of the passenger version of this van.
I used to think the Juke and Cube and the "out there" designs would look terrible.
After seeing them in person and seeing the portions and lines face to face or on the road, It changed my mind over just a few weeks. I agree with you the passenger version is a little... um... Off.
But I'll wait to see it in person or on the road to make a final call on it.
nice idea.. thanks for sharing.
