Très Chic: Peugeot XY Concept is all About Luxury and Style

|

While most gearheads will focus their attention on the 208 GTi Concept, Peugeot has readied a second study based on its freshly launched supermini. This one is called the 208 XY Concept and it will also debut at the 2012 Geneva Auto Salon in a couple of weeks' time.

The 208 XY study could be Peugeot's answer to the more upscale Citroen DS3 sub-compact model. Premium touches on the outside include a bespoke ‘Pulsion’ paintwork that Peugeot says has the ability to change color depending on the distance and the position from which it is viewed. It is created with sixteen coats of paint and lacquer.

The plush supermini rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels tucked away under subtle wheel arch extensions and features chrome decorating on the panoramic glass roof trim, while the lower window edge and the quarter panel are finished off with a special grille treatment with three horizontal chrome bars.

As you'd expect, the interior has been fully customized with crimson stitched leather making its way on the dashboard, armrests, steering wheel and gear lever, while the panoramic glass roof is edge-trimmed in black leather.

The seats are upholstered in pearl gray leather and like the GTi, the XY also gets a flat-bottom sports steering wheel. The ambient lighting on the dashboard and the special mats complete the look.

As for the powertrain, the 208 XY makes do with the regular production model's 1.6-liter e-HDi turbo diesel with 115bhp matched to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Congratulations Hyundai(!).  Your design leadership is influencing more and more manufacturers who - apparently - can't come up with a new styling direction of their own.

You do realize that Peugeots have been making cars that looked like that for literally years now WAY before Hyundai started with the "2011" Sonata, you may want to go back and do some homework on that one................whats ironic about your statement is that Hyundai is the ones that copy design elements of other makes...

i think it's so tacky to release a "luxury" car that actually looks like a random 208, only with a full-leathered interior... at least Citroen came up with new designs for its DS family

The design is something... I can say at first sight that it's about luxury!

The rear still looks like a Yaris. :( The front lights and grille are still not to my taste,
but the interior looks great (I wouldnt take this purple color anyway)

Too bad there's still no dualclutch on Peugeots.

Dual Cluth with 7 Speed will arrive in about 2 years time after the launch, probably around the same time they unleash the 1.0 and 1.2 Turbocharged engines ;)

luxury means over and above bare necessities...luxury has nothing to do with looks and style...I know....you could look at a Toureg vs Q7 vs Cayenne ....stereotypes/perceptions will dictate that Cayenne is luxury while logic will say they are the same car...don't let them brainwash you...go sit in an A3 , 1 Series,  DS4 and then C4 ....you'll be shocked...the C4 not only is less expensive but cabin quality is on par with the three and has equipment over and above all the others including premium sound systems as standard...that's why I always respect people who use their brains to buy cars than those that use ego and perception...I guess what I'm saying is just because it looks like the base 208 doesn't mean it's not a luxury...people want to bask in luxury and not admire it from afar (outside the car)...if you care about how luxurious it looks outside then chances are you are buying for wrong reasons (what others think about it rather than what you know about it)...I'm just elaborating my point and not attacking you or directing this statement towards you :)
