Dumps trucks ain't our cup of tea but there's always an exception to the rule, and this is it: a Kenworth T800 with a turbo setup that's good for more than 1,000 horses at the tires!
According to the folks over at Bangshift, who uploaded the following video on their YouTube channel, the Kenworth dump truck runs the quarter mile in 14.1 seconds.
Agreed; that's not something to brag about at a local supercar meet, but keep in mind that we're talking about a dump truck here… Just to get an idea of how fast that is for a vehicle of this type and weight, a few months back, British magazine Autoexpress clocked the BMW 1 Series M Coupe running the 1/4 mile in 13.9 seconds.

I used to drive trucks like this, our neighbors had a souped-up grain truck, the primary difference from a standard dump truck being the bed is much lighter since it doesn't take as much punishment. It was larger but probably didn't have as much horsepower as this one, but had massive torque and tandem rear axles. I couldn't believe how fast it was when unloaded, when you dropped the hammer the sensation of thrust was just unreal. An absolute blast to drive on dirt roads where you could power slide it through corners.
It looked something like this

I love that truck racing, it must be fantastically exciting to actually drive one in a herd
Did you haul bullshit.
Can I transplant the powertrain into something smaller and lighter?
Here's a link to a drag race with the truck. Wether or not, it's the actual race, I don't know, but it beats seeing a dump truck spinning it's tyres in the dirt ;-);
