When it comes to sales, there's nothing like a good start to get the positive mojo going, especially when you're faced with a crisis in a large market such as Europe.
For the Volkswagen brand (we're talking about VW alone not the VW Group), 2012 started on slightly a positive note as the company reported worldwide passenger car sales of 419,200 units in January, which represents a 0.1 percent increase over the same month last year.
“The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand made a stable start to the new year. Despite volatile developments, particularly in Europe, we maintained deliveries at last year’s high level thanks to our young and innovative product range,” commented Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the VW Group and the VW Passenger Cars brand.
In North America, the VW Brand sold 39,600 cars, up 30.2 percent from last year. In the States, the company delivered 27,200 units, recording a 47.9 percent increase over last January (18,400).
In the South America region, Volkswagen sold 64,400 cars (+3.2 per cent), while in the Asia – Pacific region, 174,700 (-6.9 percent), and in Europe, 125,500 (+0.8 percent). . In Russia, the company handed over 9,300 cars (+118.4 per cent), more than doubling its deliveries there.
In its home market of Germany, VW saw its sales decrease by 8.4 percent to 39,600 vehicles.

Looks is everything these days. The previous Passat, Jetta, etc weren't that good looking (when compared to competition). But these new models are pretty nice. Nobody want's a ugly car... NO MATTER how cheap it is or how well it drives. Looks IS!
