Was ist Das? Can you Help us Identify this Mystery Electric Sports Coupe?

|

Occasionally, our spy photographers stumble upon a prototype test vehicle that neither they nor we can identify. This happened today when one of our scoopsters sent us these shots of a mysterious small model with a coupe-like shape.

For what its worth, the prototype model was snagged testing in the northern parts of Europe.

The only piece of information we have on the black test car comes from the bright yellow decals on the sides and the rear hatch that reads "Elektrofahrzeug" (try saying that fast), which is German from "Electric Vehicle".

Looking at the prototype from the rear, you could say it might be a real life version of one of Pixar's Cars but the even goofier front end puts an end to that theory.

The possibility of Chris Bangle coming out of retirement did cross our minds, but the lack of a "bustle-back" – otherwise known as the "Bangle-butt", brings us back to square one.

Batman also came to mind, but somehow we don't think the "Dark Knight" would downgrade from the Tumbler.

If you have any thoughts on what it could be, feel free to amuse us in the comments section below.

Hmm. I can't say I know what it is, but that bubbliness and windowline remind me of the Riversimple hydrogen city car. Not sure this is it, but its an idea.

It looks like a highly camouflaged version of the TEEWAVE AR1 designed by Gordon Murray for Toray Industries...

It looks like a highly camouflaged TEEWAVE AR1 designed by Gordon Murray for Toray Industries.

The large back and low nose seems to match, as well as the development headlights which are similar to those used on the T.25 and T.27 prototypes developed by Gordon Murray.

Purely because of the side view, it looks like a weird Morgan. Maybe some sort of new direction they are taking. New for them anyway..

Morgan was my first thought.... then i thought something that looks that funky could only come from France.... This is quite the European enigma.

It's BMW's handling testbed vehicle - the one with modular|adjustable|replaceable everything that they use for R&D purposes. It can accommodate variable track widths, wheelbases, drivetrains, and it normally looks much like an Ariel Atom. What's new here is the winter-testing overcoat.

First saw I thought E-Morgan, but then I realized, that the German Word "Elektrofahrzeug" (EV) is in typical VW-font...

Alexanderspronk said... »February 22, 2012

If you look at the lining of the roof and the back I would say it
is the new Smart roadster. They have a good electrical line en this would compel
to the younger crowd. But when you look closely to the front grill you can see an inlet that looks like Alfa. It is well known that they are working on a small sportscar.
